Hoopsworld: Re-sign Magloire

Surprised nobody else has pointed out this one (if someond did and I missed it, I apologize), but Jason Fleming over at Hoopsworld thinks that Jamaal Magloire has earned another contract with the Blazers:

Suggests that Magloire's stretch of poor play has to do with being paired with Zach. I agree that the two players don't play that well together--both demand the ball on offense, neither is a great defender--but Fleming seems to forget something:

Magloire spent most of his time this year coming off the bench. Prz, or LaMarcus, has been paired with Zach most of the time.

Now, Mags has looked good of late. Could be that playing along side Smooth improves his game; could be he's happier when he gets to start; could be he realizes he needs to step it up for his next contract; could be coincidence; could be luck; could be something else.

There are legitimate questions about the health of both Prz and LaFrentz, so perhaps it might be a decent backup strategy, assuming we don't draft a Hibbert or a (please God) Oden.

And, Magloire may prefer to play elsewhere next year--although he's IMHO not good enough to be too picky where he plays.

OTOH, I wouldn't break the bank to re-sign him.
