Sorry to post a new diary on the same subject as the one below--but this contains a poll. Can't add a poll in a response.
Quite a few posters in this forum seem to think that Outlaw's days as a Blazer are numbered--and that the recent acquisition of Channing Frye is evidence of this.
Why? Outlaw was just coming on as a player at the end of the year. While I wouldn't offer him anywhere near a max deal (and if someone does offer him a ridiculously large deal, then perhaps letting him go or doing a sign-and-trade is the best choice), Travis hasn't done anything to deserve the boot. He's not near starter quality--and the position he plays best (PF) he ain't gonna beat out Aldridge for--but he's a good piece to have on the bench. The notion that Josh McRoberts is gonna beat him out for his spot is probably fanciful (if Josh can pull that off, then he's the steal of the second round); and unless KP finds a small forward on the trade or FA markets, the only guys we've got who can come close to playing the 3 are Ime, Martell, and Travis.
Nate's said he wants to keep Travis. That might not mean anything--according to KP, Zach was a key part of the team right up until draft day--but Nate is probably less generous in his praise than Slapper is. (Sucking up to players and not showing your cards until the end of the hand is a key part of a GMs job; Nate has far more ability and motivation to be blunt with people).
So...what say ye about young Mr. Outlaw?
