Andrew Bynum could have been a Trailblazer in 05

16

In along article of the LA Times, Andrew Bynum talks a bit about how he landed with the Lakers straight out of high school when the franchise was in shambles (more about the last year still to come). And he claims he also impressed Portland (page 2): "We were like, 'OK, well, we'll go work out for Portland.' So then when I went to work out for Portland, I did really, really well there. . ." If we had taken Bynum who didn't produce much his first two years, would we still have had the first draft pick and taken Durant instead of Oden? One will never know. Ironically for the Lakers, after other teams went with Diogu (now ours) and Phil Jackson's favorite Frye (now ours too) it came down to reaching for high school kid Bynum or taking the more established NCAA champ Sean May as their big man of choice. In retrospect now that's a dodged bullet...
