I just got this off theBlazer's website...this was an exchange between a fan and Casey Holdahl:
Rick_Dawgsaid...Hey Casey, ESPN is reporting that Greg has a cracked patella. Can you find out if that's correct? I mean, that sounds pretty bad. How bad is this "sore knee?" Is it like last year when his knee swoll up and next thing you know, whoops, microfracture? If you could get some verification on the injury that would be great. Thanks.
February 13, 2009 11:55 PM Casey Holdahlsaid...That report is correct Rick. An MRI showed a cracked patella on Greg's left (non microfractured) knee.
I'm sorry, but a cracked patella (which is your kneecap) sounds more serious than "I'm taking the rookie-soph allstar game off." Any doctors around here who can give us some insight? What kind of treatment and recovery time is required for a cracked patella?
And please, if you are reading this Casey, give us more information. Is this injury season ending, sitting out a month, weeks, a few games or not at all? Day-to-day for bone that is cracked in the knee does not sound like he's going to back on the court anytime soon. This feels like "we're not gonna tell you bad news on your birthday so you can enjoy it." I don't care if it's the all star break, tell us now. Maybe I'm hysterical? I can live with that. But really, how come we don't have more definitive answers?
UPDATE:Just saw this statement fromGreg Oden....it makes me feel slightly better:
"I don't expect to miss any games," said Oden, who missed six games earlier this season because of a sprained foot. "We won't know any more until I get back to Portland."
