Hey, my first post on here, been keeping up with you guys for a long time.
FromChris Sheridan:
Yep, theJazzsure were throwing mad money around a few years ago, back in the days when "AK-47" was synonymous with the 5-by-5. The Russian forward is on the books for another $17.8 for the 2010-11 season, and -- just an educated guess here -- probably the only hope the Jazz have of shedding this contract is by tossing in theKnicks' unprotected No. 1 pick in 2010 that Isiah Thomas surrendered forStephon Marburyand Utah subsequently acquired in theSuns' 2004 salary dump that enabled the signing ofSteve Nash.
I realize AK is way overpriced, but I have to say I'm a fan. I feel like he's been under performing under Sloan - who he has clashed with publicly. I remember watching him a couple years ago, put up monster defensive efforts together. It seems like he roams a lot, and that might drive Nate crazy, but who knows.. with him batum and rudy, steals to fast break points would be a routine happening. On top of that, he could give the second unit a way different look offensively. His discipline seems to have been an issue in the past and he might not fit, but just seems like a fun combination.
Might he be willing to renegotiate the terms of his deal to play elsewhere? Would that even be possible? He could provide defensive tenacity we've been missing. Start him at the 3 or have him come off the bench for LMA/Batum.
Financially, I feel like it would be a huge albatross of an investment, maybe a huge risk, even with a renegotiated deal at around 10mil per year. Maybe it would be worth it if the knicks unprotected no.1 pick (likely a lottery pick in a solid draft class) is thrown in. Maybe KP could hypnotize the Jazz' management into absorbing theDarius Miles9$ chunk.
