第二天的波特兰Blazers training camp seemed to go well for everyone except Rudy Fernandez.
Fernandez, who did not participate in contact portions of yesterday morning's practice due to blurry vision, did participate in contact portions of practice today, according to coach Nate McMillan. However, McMillan said, Fernandez "went up and blocked a shot, an unbelievable block. He came down on his back. He had a hard fall."
When the media was allowed to enter practice, Fernandez was standing by himself on the gym's far wall as his teammates shot free throws and ran end line to end line, as is custom. He did not appear to be in any pain and was not consulting with any medical or training staff members.
After practice broke, Fernandez spoke briefly with a team communications official and then beelined for the weight room, which is off limits to media. Another team communications official then informed reporters that Fernandez would not be made available for comment today and would not put a date on when he would be made available in the future. The official also said Fernandez suffered a "bruised back" which kept him out of the running drills.
Last year,Fernandez underwent a microdiscectomyto relieve pain in his back. Today's fall required ice, according to McMillan, although none was immediately visible and Fernandez appeared to move freely and was smiling as he exchanged a joke with a reporter when he left the gym.
For what it's worth, Blazers GM Rich Cho and the rest of the basketball operations staff were in attendance this morning.
