Blazers G CJ McCollum Breaks Bone In Foot, Will Undergo Surgery

The Portland Trail Blazers announced Saturday that rookie guard CJ McCollum broke a bone in his left foot during training camp and that the injury will require surgery.

The Portland Trail Blazers announced Saturday that rookie guard CJ McCollum broke a bone in his left foot during training camp and that the injury will require surgery.

X-rays confirm Portland G CJ McCollum sustained a fractured 5th metatarsal bone in his left foot at practice on Saturday at the [Practice facility].

A date for surgery has not been determined. Prognosis for his return will be made post surgery.

He was running the baseline during a scrimmage when he was bowled over by a teammate. The injury was initially called a sprain, but X-rays revealed the break, the team said.

The injury occurred during Saturday's practice when McCollum was attempting to set a screen at the team's practice facility.

McCollum previously broke the fifth metatarsal in his left foot back in January during his senior season at Lehigh. His initial recovery timeline after that injury was set at8-to-10 weeksbut he did not return for the rest of the 2012-13 NCAA season. McCollumdid not participate in the skills portionof the Chicago pre-draft combine in May but went througha solo workout with the Blazers in June. He told reporters that he was fully healed prior to playing for the Blazers at the 2013 Las Vegas Summer League in July.

McCollum, 22, was takenwith the No. 10 pick in the 2013 NBA Draft. He averaged 21 points, 4 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 34.6 minutes over five Summer League appearances.

McCollum -- who penciled as the fourth guard on the Blazers' depth chart behind Damian Lillard, Wesley Matthews and Mo Williams -- wasrecently interviewedon开拓者场边. He was regarded by his peers asone of the favoritesto win the 2014 Rookie of the Year award.

If McCollum is again given an 8-to-10 week recovery timeline, his expected return date would fall in the first few weeks of December.
