Lowering Our Standards: Trading for a Player Outside of Our Desired "Big 3"

Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports

For the most part, there are three highly desired players that most Blazer fans would like to see Portland trade for:

  • Wilson Chandler
  • Arron Afflalo
  • Kevin Martin

So far, we've yet to hear anything concrete stating that Portland is maneuvering to grab one of these guys. Regardless of whether Portland is uninterested in these players, or trading for one of these guys would require more assets than Olshey would be comfortable giving up, let's consider for a moment that these guys are unavailable and won't be wearing a Blazer jersey anytime soon.

正在考虑,让我们看一看ome guys that could possibly be had outside of those "Big 3." Let me preface this by saying that most Western Conference playoff teams will not be looking to trade with us, and that most teams in the league are unlikely to trade any player on his rookie contract. Let me also state this -- all these guys all flawed.

Wings:

  • Gerald Green-- I was leery to include Gerald Green outside of the three mentioned above since I consider him almost of equal value to Chandler, Afflalo, and Kev.Mart. Gerald Green is an athletic phenom -- he's one of the best dunkers in the league and for the most part is a Morey dream, as he shoots 3s at a 37% clip and takes it to the rim. The 6'8" SG/SF takes 40% of his shots come from long distance. He's also making a measly $3.5M in the last year of his contract, and he's likely to pursue a decent contract this summer.Basketball-Reference profile.
  • Tayshaun Prince-- he's lanky and shooting 48%(!) from deep. He's old and isn't the player he once was, but he still seems to be able to bring it in limited minutes. He's an expiring $7M contract.BBR
  • Joe Johnson-- he makes over $22M a year. He's got another year on his contract, but the guy can still play and shoot, and is arguably still one of the best ISO players in the league.BBR
  • Wesley Johnson-- the lanky 6'7" SF was the 4th overall pick a couple years ago. Now with LAL, he's had a nice couple years shooting about 40% overall and 35% from deep. He's one of the most athletic guys in the league, but he's never been able to put everything together quite fully. He had a career high PER of 11 last year, and currently makes less than $1M.BBR
  • Marcus Thornton-- he makes $8M this year. He still has one of the hottest hands in the league at times.BBR
  • Randy Foye-- he's not playing much in DEN, as Afflalo has been taking most of the minutes at the 2. He's had a down season, but he's a career 37% shooter from deep. Unfortunately, he's more suited for SG than SF, as he's only 6'4".BBR
  • Alonzo Gee-- another DEN guy, again he's not getting much run since Chandler is in front of him in the depth chart. The kid can shoot, hitting over 43% of his shots from deep, though he doesn't shoot 3s all that often. Though he's a SF, he's a bit undersized at 6'6".BBR
  • Chase Budinger-- he's been oft-injured over the last two years, and has since lost a lot of his athleticism. He's still got good size for a SF, and has been able to hit the 3 at about 35% for his career. However, he has a player option for $5M next year that he's likely to opt into.BBR
  • Steve Novak射手——他的职业生涯40%深,但他是一个terrible defender and can't do much else other than shoot the deep ball. He also has another year on his contract for a little less than $4M.BBR
  • Lance Stephenson-- he's a headcase shooting 14% from deep, but he's a defender and great at scoring in transition. He's also pricey for the next couple years.BBR
  • Marvin Williams-- he's a big SF who can also play PF. He can stretch the floor, but his shooting hasn't been great at 33% from deep. He also makes $7M this year and next.BBR
  • Chris Copeland-- another shooting big man, he's having a down year only shooting 31% from deep. He can't play defense very well, unfortunately.BBR
  • Jason Richardson——他还没有打这个赛季,但是他是整洁的ing for his comeback sooner than later. He can probably be had for cheap, and is an expiring $6M contract.BBR
  • Gerald Wallace-- he's available but perhaps one of the worst contracts in the league. He's got another year at $10M after this season.BBR

Big Men:

  • Miles Plumlee-- PHX has made him available, but they'll likely demand quite a bit in return -- at the very least a pick and prior lottery guy. He's on his rookie contract and only makes $2M next year.BBR
  • Thad Young-- I simply can't put Thad in thewingssection since he has played over 90% of his minutes at the 4 over the last couple seasons. He's having an okay season, but he's shooting 29% from deep. He's athletic and can play the 3 in a pinch, but he's a $9.4M expiring contract.BBR
  • Brook Lopez-- he's available but he's a broken toy who has been glued back together a bunch of times. He makes $15M and will very likely opt into his $16M contract next year. BRK expects to get decent assets back for him too.BBR
  • Brandon Bass-- he's a strict PF with one of the wettest midrange games in the league.BBR
  • Jason Thompson-- he's a big man who can rebound and do the dirty work while shooting around 50% from the field. However, he makes $6M a year for another two seasons after this. We could likely get him for filler and expirings.BBR
  • Channing Frye-- we know what Frye can do. He's shooting 39% from deep this year, but he's got another couple years on his contract at $9M a season.BBR
  • Ersan Ilyasova-- he's a spread-the-floor big man who's only shooting 31% from deep. He can play the 3 as well.BBR
  • Larry Sanders-- who knows what's going on with this guy. He's suspended for at least 10 games for violating the drug policy, but he's one of the best defensive big men in the league when he plays. I doubt POR management would take a chance on this guy.BBR
  • David West-- he's likely available but he's expensive and can't be had for cheap.BBR
  • Brendan Haywood-- he's cheap and his contract isn't guaranteed next year, but he's old and mediocre.BBR
  • Andrea Bargnani-- he's terrible but likely available. He can shoot, as he's a career 35% shooter from deep.BBR

Point Guards:

  • Jose Calderon-- he's been made available by NYK, and he's shooting 41% from deep, which is right in line with his career %. The downside is that he makes $7M a year for another 2 years after this.BBR
  • Ramon Sessions-- Sessions signed with SAC in the offseason but has regressed since last year. He makes $2M this year and next, but he's only shooting 34% this year overall. However, he shot 44% from deep just a couple seasons ago, and can likely be had for little to nothing.BBR
  • Nate Wolters-- Nate recently played for NOP on two 10-day contracts, but they will not be signing him for the rest of the year. He could be gotten with simply an open roster spot for cheap. He's big at 6'4", but he's only shooting 35% overall and can't hit the deep ball.BBR
  • Mo Williams-- MINN has made Mo available. He's on a 1-yr contract for $3.7M, and we know exactly what Mo can bring to the table. He has a 50 point game this year already.BBR
  • Luke Ridnour-- he's not getting a whole lot of run in ORL. He's shooting well this season, hitting about 39% of his shots from deep. However, ORL isn't exactly stacked at PG, so he might not be available.BBR
  • Norris Cole-- he's touted as a defensive-minded PG, but I'm not sure how true that is. He's a great change-of-pace guard, as he's quick and can get to the rim, but he's shooting a terrible 24% from deep. He's definitely available though.BBR
  • Deron Williams-- he makes nearly $20M a year and he's not the player he once was.BBR
