Portland's Wheelchair Basketball Team Looking For New Players

[Promoting to the front page. If anyone is interested in the team, his contact information is at the bottom! Pretty sure you can also see details attheir web site. -- Tim]

Hey B-Edgers,

The Portland Wheelblazers are about to kick off the new season and we are recruiting new players. If you or anyone you know has a physical disability and a love of basketball, or you just want to get out and be more active, please get in touch.

This past season was our best ever, ending at the national tournament in Louisville, KY. It was the first time a Portland team has gone to the national tournament and it was an amazing experience. However, four or five of players from last year have either retired or moved on, so we are looking for some new blood.

Experience is not a requirement. We have some players trying wheelchair ball for the first time this year and some who have played for thirty years. All are welcome. Our players also have a wide range of injury levels and varying function (T-4 paraplegic, polio, amputee, walker whose leg was damaged by an IED, etc...). As long as you have some type of physical disability you are eligible to play.

If you are a beginner, this would be a great year to come out as we are really focusing on skill development and chair skills. We will also be attending a basketball camp in Seattle led by national team coaches. We practice twice a week, do a small number of exhibition games (Including halftime at a Blazers game!), and play in tournaments about once a month including two big travel tournaments. Last year it was Las Vegas and Nationals.

Wheelchair basketball is an amazingly fun sport and the Wheelblazers are on the rise. Please help spread the word. Anyone interested can contact me atkevin@kericksonlaw.com.

Thanks,

Kevin Erickson, team representative
