According tothe Portland Tribune, Jerome Kersey, who played 11 of his 17 NBA seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers, will be honored on December 3 by his alma mater, Longwood University, with the naming of its basketball floor "Jerome Kersey Court".

Troy Austin, the Longwood athletic director, is well aware of how Blazer fans feel about Kersey.

后his death, "We visited Portland to meet with the Trail Blazers, and I was blown away by how they admire Jerome just as much there as we do here in Farmville," Austin said. "That's a direct result of the person Jerome was and the commitment he had to bettering the world around him. He is a shining example of the impact we strive for athletics to have on our athletes and community here at Longwood."

Kersey, who passed away on February 19, 2015, played the game with heart and hustle. A fast break layup was never a sure thing for the opposing team when Kersey was on the floor, as he would often chase the opposing player down, blocking their shot from behind. He endeared himself to Blazer fans by giving his all out on the court.
