I don't believe the Blazers really want Dwight Howard on this team. However, I could definitely see them facilitating a trade of...say...Howard for Whiteside. Since Howard is making about $22M more per year than Whiteside and both teams are over the cap, they would need some serious help. This would make some sense for both teams, though, and I could see them trying to do it. The Blazers would probably end up absorbing and cutting Birdman. For their troubles, they might be able to get Winslow or at least Miami's or Houston's 1st round pick. Winslow would be my preference, but I am trusting Olshey's judgement to get the best he can. Houston will still be a train wreck either way so it doesn't hurt the Blazers' chances any and they could get a pretty good return for a little cap room.
