Power Forward Gamble

I did a post recently on BE about the next player position the Blazers would trade for. By far and large the poll results were in favor of a Power Forward . So to follow up with that I am putting this article together to give those same fans who voted an idea of what is out there. Disclaimer: I did claim in the last article that Power Forwards who can playboth sidesof the court are few and far between. So I added a few more that aren't a perfect fit for the Blazers to see if there is a dark horse PF out there that BE fans like.

Nikola Mirotic

-26 yrs old / 6-10 / 220lbs / RFA 2017

-2016/2017 Game Avg: 22 MPG / 9 PPG / 5 TRB / .38 FG% / .29.FG3% / .771 FT% / 0.8 BLK / 0.7 STL

-Mirotic's stats are down all across the board from his career average. It's been suggested that Chicago is not utilizing him properly or there could be some issue between him and the team management.

+ He can space the floor and may just be in a slump this season. A breath of fresh air on another team could elevate his playing.

- He's more of a utility player and his defense is not his most impressive skill. He can sign a contract with another team in the off-season if he wants to.

Kyle O'Quinn

-26 yrs old / 6-10 / 250lbs / UFA 2019 (4 million / year)

-2016/2017 Game Avg: 15.3 MPG / 6.4 PPG / 5.6 TRB / .53 FG% / .11 FG3% / .750 FT% / 1.4 BLK / 0.4 SLT

-O'Quinn's stats are up in every category but his FG3%, which wasn't that impressive to begin with. His blocks on defense are a nice plus.

-Like so many PF's around the league, he's a utility player that has hot streaks but unfortunately he's not going to be taking over games that often.

Larry Nance Jr.

-24 yrs old / 6-9 / 230lbs / RFA 2020

-2016/2017 Game Avg: 22.3 MPG / 6.9 PPG / 5.5 RPG / .56 FG% / .15 FG3% / .723 FT% / 0.6 BLK / 1.2 STL

+Nance has room to grow. Active hands on defense, and his blocking could improve. He'd have some time to develop with the Blazers before his contract ran out.

-He doesn't stretch the floor as a perimeter shooter. Yet. For his MPG his offense isn't as strong as it should be. Doubtful the Lakers part with a young asset that has potential.

John Leuer

-27 yrs old / 6-10 / 228lbs / UFA 2020

-2016/2017 Game Avg: 27 MPG / 11.2 PPG / 5.7 RPG / .51 FG% / .33 FG3% / .906 FT% / 0.4 BLK / 0.4 STL

+低浓缩铀是射击。他可以圣retch the floor with his 3FG% which is just enough to keep opposing defenses honest. The Blazers would get a few years to see if he can develop further.

-That FT% is inflated as he typically takes just a couple shots a game, so he rarely gets to the line. His defense hurts the Blazers instead of helping them. Detroit is not likely to part ways with Leuer easily.

Derrick Favors

-25yrs old / 6-10 / 265lbs / UFA 2018 (10-11 million / year)

-2016/2017 Game Avg: 24 MPG / 9 PPG / 6 RPG / .47 FG% / .25 3FG% / .635 FT% / .8 BLK / .9 STL

+Favors impacts both sides of the court. On the Blazers timeline. He's having a down season due to injuries but could very well bounce back.

-The Blazers would have to pay the Jazz heavy for this to happen and it's doubtful they give up on their starting PF. Favors has been plagued with injuries for many of his seasons in the NBA. His contract easily puts the Blazer's in luxury tax purgatory.

Julius Randle

-22 yrs old / 6-9 / 250lbs / RFA 2018 ( 3 million / year)

-2016/2017游戏Avg: 28 MPG / 13分/ 8个篮板。49 FG% / .25 3FG% / .716 FT% / 0.4 BLK / 0.7 STL

+Randle is fast becoming one of the better offensive PF in the league. Young and teachable. On the Blazers timeline. His rebounding, scoring, and the ability to find his own baskets would make an immediate impact on the Blazers.

-As with Nance, this is a matter of LA somehow tripping and hitting their head sometime between now and the trade deadline in order for a departure of Randle to happen. His defense would not give the Blazers an edge over opposing teams. Spacing may be an issue, you don't find Randle shooting from the perimeter that much or that effectively.

Willie Reed

-26 yrs old / 6-11 / 245 lbs / UFA 2018 (1 million / year)

-2016/2017 Game Avg: 15 MPG / 5.2 PPG / 4.8 RPG / .57 FG% / .33 3FG% / .567 FT% / 0.7 BLK / 0.2 STL

+Reed generally doesn't have a lot of time to make a huge impact on his team, but you do have to wonder if he can sustain his shooting percentages with more minutes. He could switch to the center position if the match-up was right. On the Blazers timeline. Cheap contract with time to test drive.

-Not sure how much Miami values Reed. They would likely try to sell him high no matter what. His FT% is atrocious, making him an easy target for teams late in games. His defense is a liability. At 26 Reed isn't advanced as most of his peers and has only 1 year of experience in the NBA.

John Henson

-26 yrs old / 6-11 / 229lbs / UFA 2020 (Avg 9.5 million / year)

-2016/2017 Game Avg: 20 MPG / 7 PPG / 5 RPG / .51 FG% / .00 3FG% / .707 FT% / 1.3 BLK / 0.5 STL

+Henson typically plays the Center position on his team but he could honestly play PF and Center if need be. His defense is the immediate improvement for the Blazers, and with starters minutes he could possibly get more points and rebounds.

-Milwaukee knows they have a good back-up center and they are unlikely to trade him unless Miles Plumlee turns out to be as good or better. Henson's home offensively is Very close to the basket and this creates problems with spacing. His contract is higher than what the Blazers are likely looking for at the level that he produces.

Gorgui Dieng

-27 yrs old / 6-11 / 240lbs / UFA 2021 (Avg 15.5 million / year)

-2016/2017 Game Avg: 32 MPG / 10 PPG / 8 RPG / .51 FG% / .38 3FG% / .781 FT% / 1.1 BLK / 1.0 STL

+Dieng's shooting is good, he can space the floor and he is a defensive presence. Yet again, he is on the Blazers timeline. He can also switch to the center position. He makes an immediate impact on the Blazers.

-Dieng's 3FG% and FT% are inflated as he's at 0.5 3PM-3PA and 1.8 FTA-FTM a game. His contract extension kicks in this year as well, so yea, the Timberwolves want to keep this guy. He'd also most likely break the Blazers bank.

Thanks for taking the tine to read through this article. I'm sure there are other PF and even Centers that could be included in this discussion, so feel free to leave a comment about your pick(s) from the list or any other's that you think are viable candidates and why. The trade deadline is approaching fast, fingers crossed NO pulls off one more plus trade while he can. I've also attached a poll to see which player in the list BE fans are the most interested in.

Honorable Mentions: Nerlens Noel, Tobias Harris, Thaddeus Young, Patrick Patterson, and Blake (Blazers have no luck in FA) Griffin.
