Cousins Fallout

Just a collection of personal thoughts/opinions on the fallout. Would be interested in reading if others agree/disagree.

1) Good news: Pelicans are going to jump ahead of the Blazers in the lottery race. While Sac will most certainly fall behind but that was probably going to happen anyway.

2) Slightly good news: DeMarcus Cousins is not a Blazer: While I probably would have cheered if he became a Blazer, the reality is that it would have been a horrible move anyway. No one is beating the W's in the next 2-3 years anyway and the most likely situation would have been trading any a bunch of our draft picks for a dude who would jet after a year anyway. Even with Cousins we are not gaurunteed to make the W.C. Championship.

3) Recognition: Olshey showed some poise here. As mad as I have been for putting the Blazers into the spot where they are right now (yes, I 100% blame Olshey, discussion for another post), he had the peices to make this deal. Only a GM that is really thinking hard about planning for the future stays away from this move.

4) Trade Deadline: If Olshey really wants to get back in my book, he would take advantage of the sunny-side-up scramble that's going to take place in the next couple of days. GM's in the west who believe they can be last man standing are going to be offering some serious skrilla in the coming days to compete in this newly defined race. If Olshey isn't on the phone right now with the W's, SA, Houston, The Clippers, and Memphis then he's not doing his job. Get it done Neil, I personally would like to see another draft pick come our way.

5) Lastly: I really hope Neil and Terry just shut it down for the rest of the season. Mind you, I'm am NOT saying tank. What I'm really interested in watching is to see if ANY of our "prospects" are going to step up. I want to see line-ups consisting of Layman, Patty C, Vonleh, Napier, and even a lot of Meyers Leonard (I know right). Sit Ed Davis, Sit Aminu, Sit A.C. and Turner. The playoff door is officially closed, and we still don't have a good idea what the future looks like. It's time to find out.
