Why Portland does it. We get a legit, all star caliber PF in Randle and Luol Deng, will form a nice SF platoon with Harkless. Plus, in the end, we save 4 million in committed salary for next year. While I am sure the Deng contract will seem an albatross, the prize is Randle who will be a RFA and thus can keep around for 6-7 years if we want.

Why Lakers do it? AC gives them a great, more reliable young piece to build around and at least have the salary tied up in him. They rid themselves of the Deng contract and Ed Davis' contract comes off the book in 18months when Boogie becomes a UFA. The extra first round pick just adds some extra incentive
