Traded Blazers: Where are They Now?

The recent trade deadline had me nostalgic for former Trail Blazers who were traded away.

I did some digging to answer one question: Which players have been traded by the Blazers, and are still in the league? I scoured through 11 years of trades, all the way back to Zach Randolph. As far as I can tell, he’s the longest-tenured former Trail Blazer still in the NBA.

These players were alltraded,either mid-season or in the offseason. I did not include players whose draft rights were traded, players who never suited up in Rip City, or who have since left the NBA. So you won’t see guys like Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Jeff Withey, Rudy Fernandez, Gerald Wallace, Andre Miller, or Joel Przybilla. We start with the most recent trade and go in reverse chronological order. Here’s to catching up with old friends.

Mason Plumlee

Sigh. In three games with Denver, Mason is averaging 11 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists in 26.3 minutes per game.

Nicolas Batum

On June 24, 2015, Nicolas Batum was traded to the Charlotte Hornets for Gerald Henderson and Noah Vonleh.

Now in his second season with the Hornets, Batum is averaging 15 points, 6 assists (both career highs) and 7 rebounds in 34.7 minutes per game. He is in the first year of a five-year,$120 million contract. In 2020-21 he will make more than $27 million.

Will Barton

Victor Claver and Thomas Robinson didn’t stay but Will Barton seems to have found a home in Denver. The People’s Champ is playing just over 29 minutes per game, averaging career highs in minutes played (29.2), field goal percentage (44.5), 3-point shooting percentage (37.9), EFG% (50.7), and assists (3.5). He’s also averaging 13.8 points and 4.7 rebounds.

The Thrill is a fan favorite in Denver for his high-flying energetic play. He is also the star of one of my all-time favorite NBA Vines of him walking off the court and fist-bumping a baby.

Raymond Felton

On July 16, 2012, the Blazers traded Raymond Felton along with Kurt Thomas to the New York Knicks for Dan Gadzuric, Jared Jeffries, Kostas Papanikolaou, Giorgos Printezis, cash and a 2016 second-round draft pick.

Lets not rehash Felton’s time in Portland. It was a difficult time for all of us.

Despite his tumultuous tenure in Rip City, the 12-year veteran has made a solid career in the league. After Portland, he played in New York and Dallas before signing with the Los Angeles Clippers. He’s averaging 22.7 min/game, shooting a career high from the 3-point line. (Per-36 he’s having a career low in turnovers with 1.9 per outing.)

Dante Cunningham

On Feb. 24, 2011, a mid-season trade sentDante Cunningham, Sean Marks, Joel Przybilla, and two first-round draft picks to the Charlotte Bobcats for Gerald Wallace. Gerald Wallace, of course, would later be traded for the draft pick that would bring Damian Lillard to the Trail Blazers.

Over the last nine seasons, Dante Cunningham has made a nice career for himself. After leaving Portland, he bounced around the league (Charlotte, Memphis and Minnesota) before landing in New Orleans. He’s averaging 25.1 minutes per game which ties a career high, has added a 3-point shot to his game and is shooting a career-high 39 percent from beyond the stripe.

Jerryd Bayless

On Oct. 23, 2010, Portland traded Jerryd Baylessto New Orleans for a protected 2011 first-round pick.

Bayless has played with seven teams over nine seasons. This is his first season with the Philadelphia 76ers although he is currently sidelined with a broken wrist. The injury occurred after only three games, in which he averaged 11 points, 4 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 23.7 minutes.

Sergio Rodriguez

On June 25, 2009, Sergio Rodriguez and Jon Brockman were traded to the Sacramento Kings for Jeff Ayres.

Sergio came into the league in 2006. He played with Portland for 3 seasons before being traded to Sacramento. He was traded halfway through the 2009-10 season to the New York Knicks and then left the NBA to play in Europe. He returned to the NBA this season to play in Philadelphia with two other former Blazers, Gerald Henderson and Jerryd Bayless. He has played in all 52 games this season, averaging NBA career highs in scoring (8 points), 3-point shooting (36.7 percent), rebounds (2.4), and assists (5.2) in 22.6 minutes.

Jarrett Jack

On July 9, 2008 the Trail Blazers traded Jarrett Jack, Josh McRoberts and the rights to Brandon Rush to Indiana for Ike Diogu and the rights to Jerryd Bayless. Jack has played with several teams over his 11-year career, most recently with the New Orleans Pelicanson a 10-day contract. At age 32 he tore his ACL and has been out of the league since January, 2016. He signed a contract with the Atlanta Hawks over the summer but was waived before the season started.

Josh McRoberts

McRoberts was drafted by Portland in 2007 and one year later was traded along with Jarrett Jack to Indiana. He spent three years in Indiana then bounced around a bit before he ended up in Miami.

Now in his third year with the Heat, McRoberts injured his foot in December and is out indefinitely. Before the injury he was averaging 4.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists in 17.3 minutes per game. At the time of his injury he was shooting better from the 3-point line (41.9 percent) than from inside the arc (35.6 percent).

Zach Randolph

On June 28, 2007, the Trail Blazers traded Zach Randolph, Dan Dickau and Fred Jones to the New York Knicks for Steve Francis and Channing Frye.

在肖t stints with the Knicks and the Clippers, Z-Bo ended up in Memphis where he has been for the last eight seasons. He is a two time NBA All-Star, playing in the 2010 and 2013 games. He is currently making over $10 million this season, and twice, at the height of his career—back in 2010 and 2013—he made over $17 million a season.

At almost 36 years old he is averaging 14.1 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 24.3 minutes per game.
