It has been a roller-coaster few months for formerTrail BlazersstarBrandon Roy, but the recent news is much more positive than thereported shooting that occured in late-April. It looks like Roy will be taking over basketball coaching duties at Garfield High School, according to Nathan Joyce of theSeattle Times, giving the Washington native a chance to return to his roots.

Roy flourished as a player at Garfield High before turning in an impressive four-year tenure at the University of Washington. The former Huskie will enter his second season as a head coach with a solid resume, as he coached the Nathan Hale Raiders to 29-0 record en route to Washington’s 3A State Title.

While Seattle Public Schools did not confirm the hiring, Garfield did announce the hiring via Twitter.

Once official, Roy will take over for Ed Haskins, who is departing from his post at Garfield to join Washington State’s coaching staff.

Roy will have a considerable amount of work ahead of him, as he won’t have the luxury of coaching the top prospect in the nation at his next stop. Michael Porter Jr. was vital to Nathan Hale’s success last season, and will be suiting up for the University of Missouri this coming fall.
