Per NBA rules, all trades are subject to completion of a physical by all players involved in the proposed deal. If the physical condition of a player does not satisfy the receiving team, the trade can be voided.
Thomas traveled to Cleveland, took exam and flew back out of town, sources said. All players must pass physical, or a deal can be voided.

As one source involved in the process involving Thomas' medical clearance told ESPN late Friday night, "It's a very sensitive situation."

这是一个重大的协议为骑士队和Celtics. Irving and Thomas were major stars for each franchise. Thomas famously suited up for the Celtics the day after his sister died and showed loyalty to the team, only to watch them trade him as part of a larger package for Irving. If the Celtics have to welcome him back into the fold, explanations will be difficult. Meanwhile the Cavaliers were widely praised for the package they received for their disgruntled point guard in a reportedly-soft market. They’d have no easy way of recouping their loss through another trade if this deal went sour.
No matter Thomas’ condition, options remain. Cleveland could void the trade and pursue other suitors for Irving. The teams could revisit the trade with Cleveland demanding more to taking on Thomas as “damaged goods”. Or the Cavaliers could decide the reward is worth the potential risk and simply green-light the original deal.
Stay tuned as the story develops. We’ll keep you up to date as more information becomes available.
