Who are the best trios ever to don Portland’s uniform?

NBA: Utah Jazz at Portland Trail Blazers Troy Wayrynen-USA TODAY Sports

ThePortland Trail Blazershave featured several amazing individual talents in their five-decades as an NBA franchise. Sometimes, in magical moments, individuality becomes more. Certain eras are known just for brilliant stars, but for units that became more than the sum of their parts. This week Blazer’s Edge will conduct a 3-on-3 tournament of a different sort, asking you to vote each day for one of your favorite teammate trios in franchise history.

I have chosen 8 of the Blazers top historical trios of all time and put them in a one and done tournament. Each day, fans will have 24 hours to vote starting at noon. After the time is up, the winner will advance and the next matchup will begin.

Here are today’s trios:

Team 1:Bill Walton,Maurice Lucas,Lionel Hollins.2 seasons together (1976-1978)

Notables : Bob Gross

Their case: Three of the members of the the lone Blazers championship team in 1977. All 3 players finished NBA first team all defense in 1978. Walton was runner up for league MVP in 1977 and won it in 1978. Lucas respectively finished 9th and 6th in the MVP voting over those 2 years. All three players were named to the 1978 NBA All Star team with Walton and Lucas earning those honors in the 1977 season, as well. Finished with 49 wins in ‘77 and 58 wins in ‘78.

Team 8.Sidney Wicks, Geoff Petrie, John Johnson2 seasons (1973-75)

Their Case: They could really score the ball. Wicks and Petrie took turns placing in the top 10 in scoring in the 2 years the threesome was together. Wicks averaged 22.5 and 21.7 in the two season while Petrie averaged 24.3 and 18.3. Wicks also made the All-Star team both years and received some MVP votes. Johnson only stayed in Portland for a little over 2 seasons but he managed to average over 16 points per game in each full season. Fans of the newly created franchise werent able to watch many wins during the Wicks/Petrie/Johnson era, but they were able to see three good players and a lot of points.

Vote now here. Make sure to come back daily and vote on every matchup:
