One Blazers Trade With Every Team in the NBA

Jason Miller/Getty Images

The Blazers have an interesting summer ahead of them. After a promising finish to the regular season, the team fizzled out in an embarrassing first-round sweep to thePelicans. We all know the cap situation is ugly, and relief won't come for another couple years. Lillard isn't getting any younger, so what can the Blazers do? Below you'll find some options with a little insight into why each team might consider the deal.

I didn't approach this with one philosophy in mind. Some of these were more "win now" moves, and others were "blow it up" moves, while others were just boring cap management moves. Instead, I just looked at the teams rosters, thought about their situations, and tried to come up with a deal that teams may consider. There are a lot of "what ifs" that came with this, as in some require another player on the roster to opt out of the last year of the contract, or another team not like the players in their draft range.

The philosophy I approached it with was this: If I'm Neil Olshey, and I'm out to dinner with the other team's GM, and we've had a couple glasses of wine and a big meal, what type of deals would we start throwing out there?

Also note that I didn't include 3-team trade options, or sign-and-trade options.

EASTERN CONFERENCE

Atlanta -Evan Turnerand the 24th pick forKent Bazemore
Bazemoredoesn't fit with Atlanta's timeline, and will make more over the next two years than Evan Turner. They save a little money to pick up a third 1st round pick in this years draft to help with their rebuild. The Blazers get a little more production out wing position.

Boston - 24th pick for the 27th pick and a future 2nd round pick.
如果波士顿他们关注一个特定的球员,Blazers slide down a few spots to pick up an extra asset down the line.

Brooklyn continues to take other people's trash in order to gain more draft capital, by committing to one more year of a bad contract.

Charlotte - Evan Turner and the 24th pick forMichael Kidd-GilchristandJulyan Stone
The Blazers give up the 24th pick to swap a bad contract for a less bad contract. Charlotte puts an end to the MKG injury gamble, and receives an extra 1st round pick to help them build towards the future.

Chicago -CJ McCollumand the 24th pick forRobin Lopez,Omer Asik, and the 7th pick

Cleveland - CJ McCollum for JR Smith,Kyle Korver, and the 8th pick
Cleveland tries to convince LeBron to stay by bringing in some more help, without having to give upKevin Lovein the process. The Blazers get an elite rookie prospect, some shooting help from Korver, and some 2019/2020 salary cap relief since Korver and Smith's contracts are only partially guaranteed.

Detroit - CJ McCollum and the 24th pick forAndre DrummondandLuke Kennard
The Blazers get an all-star caliber center and a young shooting prospect. ThePistonsshakeup their roster by moving on fromDrummond, and building around a McCollum/Griffin core. They also recoup a first round pick this year.

The Blazers get some cap relief, and an extra 1st round pick this year. Indiana brings in defensive depth, and hedges againstThaddeus Youngleaving in free-agency.

Miami - CJ McCollum for Tyler Johnson andJustise Winslow
Tyler Johnson'scontract over the next two years is ugly, but his shooting could help the Blazers, and this deal still provides the Blazers with some breathing room next season. Winslow brings an elite defensive prospect, who still has upside. TheHeatget an elite scorer to start re-shaping their team around.

Milwaukee -Meyers LeonardforMatthew Dellavedova
Two teams swap bad contracts, hoping a change of scenery for the players could bring a little more value than they are each providing currently.

New York - CJ McCollum for Tim Hardaway Jr, Emmannuel Mudiay, and the 9th pick
TheKnicksget out of one of the worst contracts given last summer, and start building around a McCollum/Porzingis core. The Blazers get some short-term cap relief, and get an elite level rookie to build towards their future.

Orlando - CJ McCollum and the 24th pick forEvan FournierandJonathan Isaac
Orlando gets a big upgrade on the wing and an extra first round pick. The Blazers get a decent 2-guard to help them still compete for the playoffs, while hope that Isaac can development to a stretch-4 to form their f"ront-court-of-the-future" withZach Collins.

Philadelphia - CJ McCollum forRobert Covingtonand the 10th pick
The Sixers get the shot creator they were missing in the playoffs. The Blazers get a 3-and-D wing, as well as a lottery pick to help build towards the future.

多伦多-埃文特纳和24日挑选Serge Ibaka

Washington - The 24th pick, and a lottery protected 2019 1st round pick, for the 15th pick and 44th pick.
The Blazers move up for a player they want in the draft. Washington drops down, and saves some money on their rooking contract to help with their luxury tax situation, and picks up a first round pick next year.

WESTERN CONFERENCE

Dallas - CJ McCollum and the 24th for Wes Matthews and the 5th pick
If they aren't enamored with any of the 2nd-tier rookies, Dallas tries to expedite a rebuild by bringing in CJ McCollum. Dumping Matthews contract maintains a majority of their cap space. Could they then leverage their no-state tax advantage to draw a guy likePaul Georgeaway from OKC or theLakers?那些althou开拓者球迷最喜欢的,带回来gh is a shell of what he used to be, can still bring valuable skills in shooting and culture-development. The Blazers continue trending young by bringing in a high-upside pick.

Denver - Al-Farouq Aminu and the 24th pick for the 14th pick
The Blazers save some cap space and move up in the draft. Denver slides back, but also gets a defensive vet to help them in the hunt for the playoffs next year.

Golden State - 24th pick for the 28th pick and a future second round pick.
If Golden State has their eye on a specific player, the Blazers slide down to pick up a future asset.

Houston - Mo Harkless and Meyers Leonard forRyan Anderson
To hedge against Ariza leaving in free agency, theRocketslook to swap for a wing, and also hope that D'antoni can find some use for Leonard in Moreyball. The Meyers Leonard era comes to a close, and the Blazers swap Harkless for more reliable floor spacing inAnderson.

LAClippers- CJ McCollum and the 24th pick for Danillo Gallinari, the 12th and 13th picks.
The Clippers continue their retool by brining in CJ McCollum, and get out of the Danillo Gallinari's terrible contract. The Blazers gamble on two lottery picks. If Gallinari can stay healthy, his skill set would fit nicely in Portland's scheme... That's a big if though.

LA Lakers - CJ McCollum forBrandon Ingram,Luol Deng, and the 25th pick
The Blazers get a young, high upside wing in exchange for CJ, while also allow the Lakers to get out of one of the worst contracts in the NBA, and in doing so get a 25th pick. The Lakers get an elite scorer and maintain the majority of their cap space to help the lure potential free agents likeLeBron James,Paul George, orDeAndre Jordan.

Memphis - CJ McCollum and the 24th pick forChandler Parsonsand the 4th pick
Memphis went all in with the tank this year after Conley got hurt, and ended up falling to the 4th pick after the lottery. If they had their sights set on one of the top two guys, they may look to move the pick to bring in a vet who can help get the most out of Conley and Gasol's final years. They bring in an elite scorer, and get out ofParsonscontract. The Blazers make a big splash to bring in a high-upside young player.

Minnesota - CJ McCollum forAndrew Wigginsand the 20th pick
Was there a worse decision last summer than offering Andrew Wiggins a 5-year max extension? Who was Minnesota bidding against? Why not wait for him to sign a 4-year offer sheet this summer, and then match it? In this scenario, Portland bets on Wiggins taking a leap to stardom, instead of him being an overpaidRudy Gayclone. This might be my least favorite scenario, as Minnesota walks away breathing a sigh of relief that they got out of their mistake, while Portland walks away crossing their fingers that their huge gamble pays off.

New Orleans - Cash Considerations for the 51st pick
There aren't a whole lot of deals that make sense at the moment for Portland and New Orleans. Instead, the Blazers buy a second-round pick.

Oklahoma City - Cash Considerations for the 53rd or 57th pick
Both Portland's and and Oklahoma City's cap situations are awful, and they also don't have bad contracts to swap. Instead, Portland buys one of Oklahoma City's two late 2nd round picks.

Phoenix -Damian Lillardfor the 1st pick andTyson Chandler
The Blazers decide to blow it up, and trade the face of their franchise for the #1 pick. If Phoenix has questions marks around the guys at the top of the draft, they decide to expedite the rebuild by bringing in a 1st-team All-NBA point guard to pair with Booker in the back court.

Sacramento - Mo Harkless for the 36th pick
Harkless becomes the cap casualty this summer for Portland, and they ship him out for a 2nd round pick.

San Antonio - CJ McCollum, Zach Collins, and the 24th pick forKawhi Leonard
If the relationship between San Antonio and Kawhi has been too badly damaged, the Blazers swoop for the previous Finals MVP and Defensive Player of the Year. San Antonio starts their re-tooling with an elite scorer and a high-upside big.

Utah - Meyers Leonard and the 24th forAlec Burks
The Blazers andJazzswap players that have fallen out of favor in the rotations. In taking on an extra year ofLeonard'scontract, the Jazz get the 24th pick. Leonard can also provide them a little insurance for Gobert's injury history, especially if Favors walks this summer. The Blazers get cap relief, and hope thatBurkscould provide some help as a backup 2-guard.

So what are your thoughts? Are there any deals that you like? Any that you hate? What type of moves would you like to see.
