With thePortland Trail Blazersin this year’s Summer League, Archie Goodwin has a chance to break a record: most career Summer League points. He’s up to 324, just 13 points fromCoby Karl’s record 337 points. For Goodwin, though, it’s more about catching on with an NBA team than breaking an obscure record.

Tim Reynolds of the APcaught up with a determined Goodwin on the verge of history:

“I’m a resilient person,” Goodwin said. “That speaks to how I was raised that way, to never give up on my dreams. Hopefully the right situation pops up.”

Goodwin was one of the best guards in the G League last season, averaging 19 points on 53 percent shooting.

“I feel like I’m not getting a fair shake,” Goodwin said. “But that’s how it is. That’s my motivation. I’m going to keep knocking at the door and hopefully someone realizes that this kid — I’m only 23 years old — can help a team and bring a lot of value to a team.”

Goodwinsigned a training camp dealwith the Blazers ahead of last season, playing in five preseason games beforebeing cut. He averaged 6.2 points per game over his preseason with the Blazers.

Goodwin has also spent time with theSuns,Pelicans, andNets, last appearing in an NBA game during the 2016-17 season.
