Melo Appreciative of Fan Support in Home Debut

Trail Blazers forward Carmelo Anthony expressed gratitude for the support he received in his home debut against the Thunder.

After four games in aTrail Blazersuniform,Carmelo Anthonymade his home debut in Portland’s victory over Oklahoma City on Wednesday. Melo, who notched 19 points on 11 attempts from the field, received a standing ovation as he exited the floor.

After the game, Melo spoke withPortland Tribune’s Kerry Eggers关于他的经历的Moda中心crowd.

“My first home game at the Moda Center in Portland, still trying to find my way through this whole situation ... the fans were incredible tonight, the support they showed,” Anthony said. “To be a part of this atmosphere on the other side rather than being on the opposing team, being able to feel that support and that communication from the fans — it goes a long way, I’ll tell you that.”

Melo went on to explain what the warm reception meant in relation to his return to the NBA.

“It was surprising, but people, they see how genuine this is for me, right?” Carmelo Anthony said. “It’s not fake. It’s authentic. This is who I am. This is real love at the end of the day. People can sense when it’s not. That’s what we’re dealing with.”

Facing theBullson Friday, Melo will get another chance to impress in front of the home crowd. Through five outings, the former Syracuse standout is averaging 16.6 points and five rebounds per game.
