I've mostly alternated from being ambivalent about April Fools Day to outright hating it ever since 34 years ago on this date when I was the victim of a schoolyard shooting, but in a world where actual headlines for actual true stories make people stop and say "WAIT, WAIT WAIT! ... Is this satire?!?!", how is April Fools Day still even a thing?
I just noticed this morning on the 2019 calendar I picked up from my favorite pupuseria down the street from me, April Fools Day is listed amongHolidays & Observances. I've also noticed in my Facebook feed that perhaps the most standard hoax du jour for AFD 2019 is announcing that you are moving to L.A. I do quite like visiting L.A., but I'd sooner be believed to announce I'm dedicating my life to staying in Sacramento and running for mayor.
