Trail Blazers newcomer Harry Giles has endured a basketball journey full of twists and turns. Tabbed as thetop recruit in 2017 class, Giles has rode a wave of injury setbacks and sky-high expectations. But if Giles wasn’t on a hoops journey, he might be in a dentist office with a drill in hand.
In a conversation withThe Athletic’s Jason Quick, Giles explained that he would be a dentist if it wasn’t for basketball.
“I’d be a dentist. Ever since I was young, I enjoy seeing people smile. And I like good, clean teeth as well. I guess it all goes together.”
Giles, the No. 20 selection in the 2017NBA Draft—a pick originally owned by the Blazers, has appeared in 104 regular season games with the Kings prior to his arrival in Portland. Last season, he averaged 6.9 points 4.1 rebounds per game. With the Blazers, Giles is set to compete with Enes Kanter and Zach Collins for minutes in Portland’s reserve big-man rotation.
