Blazers Offseason

I’ve never posted on here, but I have some ideas for our roster this offseason. I believe all could work from a salary cap perspective.

Biggest needs: Defense and Frontline Depth

Carmelo Anthony:First and foremost, the guy is a great asset. He’s embraced his role, loves the organization and wants to stay. He brings veteran leadership, clutch scoring, and cachet. No brainer you try to keep him. Now, he knows that we can only offer the MLE (or BLE?), since we don’t have his bird rights. So if he made the comments he did about wanting to stay, and since we are over the cap, he’s willing to accept it. Just like last year with Hood/Curry/Enes, we can only offer it to one guy. I would offer him 2 years.

Hassan Whiteside:Tough one here. I know many will want to see him walk, but we need depth at the post. Hate to say it but Collins looks injury prone, and Hassan obviously provides good rim protection. Since we are over the cap and have his bird rights, I think you gotta make him an offer. There’s not a lot of teams with cap space so we could get him at a reasonable rate. It will be tough to get another quality big this year.

Lamarcus Aldridge:Best chance here, given his contract (1yr, 24M), is that Spurs let him go at his request. Possible if Pop leaves and they go full rebuild. We then sign him at a vets min (similar to the Enes contract with NYK). Would be great to bring him back for more frontline depth, but not sure how likely this is. 2021 is a possibility though.

Nate Mcmillan:As a defensive assistant? Not sure he gets another head coaching gig at this point. I believe, besides player development, this was Vanderpool’s strong point (why did we let him go again?) Either way, get him or someone else to shore up the D.

Giannis Antetokounmpo:I know you think this is crazy, but it makes sense. It would cost us CJ, Nurc, and maybe GTJ and picks, but Milwaukee could sign and trade him if he requests it (at supermax money). With the Bucks underperforming in the playoffs, I can see him leaving. An offense with Dame and the Greek Freak, along with Melo, Hood, Ariza(?) and Collins/Whiteside at center would be impossible to defend. With Dames range and what Giannis can do at the rim makes them an instant contender. Talk it into existence people.

Anyway, thoughts? There’s already some chatter of teaming up Giannis & Dame (or Luka), and no one wants him going to GS. We have a short window with Dame, and guys want to play with him. Gotta strike while the iron’s hot.
