Olshey Tipping His Hand?

4

In an article about Batum, Haynes includes this quote from Olshey: "if Nic can make a jump, if Wes [Matthews] can make a jump, if L.A. [LaMarcus Aldridge] can just be L.A., and Damian [Lillard] can be who we think he has the ability to be, we're not that far away. And having a lottery pick potentially, and three second [round picks], and having $13 million in room potentially, is a pretty good position to be in eight months from now." That sounds to me like someone who isn't going to pick up the options on the Smith/Babbitt/Williams troika, and who is going to manage the season to ensure we aren't giving away our first rounder to the Bobcats.

NBA dumping the All-Star Center position

3

From now on, the NBA will just list "frontcourt" players on the All-Star ballot, abandoning a separate section for the C position. So, you could end up with three power forwards starting the All-Star game, and zero centers and SF's. Is this good or bad for LaMarcus? Will it matter, since he was unlikely to be voted in anyway? There is no mention of whether this affects any voting for bench players, which didn't seem to matter already.

Haynes: Harper and Lauderdale to Boise, additional cuts coming Saturday

7

As expected, Dallas Lauderdale and Demonte Harper will join the Stampede next month. While they won't officially be cut by the Blazers until Saturday, they weren't at the practice facility on Tuesday and won't travel with the team to Utah. In other roster moves, one additional camp invitee will probably be assigned to the Stampede on Saturday. From Haynes:"Olshey said the organization will wait until Oct. 27, to make roster cuts. Those players waived will be placed into a 48-hour waiver window open for any to team to claim, similar to what the Trail Blazers did with Justin Holiday. However, if a team does claim a player off waivers, they will be responsible for their prorated salary. An NBA D-League team can carry up to 10 guys and Olshey says the makeup of the Stampede will probably be four to five players that were on the team last year, three players that they'll assign out of the pool of camp invites, and a couple of draft picks."在一个相关的文章, Candace Bucker notes that NBA rosters must be set by Monday, Oct. 29.

Ben talks Crash & Ray

3

Ben says they're "X-factors" for the Knicks and Nets: "Wallace’s off-ball activity should regularly produce points as team defenses turn their attention elsewhere." "It doesn’t take an accountant to see the value play the Knicks made with these decisions and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to deduce who will take the fall if Lin continues to play well. Felton is squarely in the city’s crosshairs."
