Russell Westbrook in Portland

3

In the wake of Kevin Durant's departure from OKC, Russell Westbrook will (in all likelihood) be getting traded before otherwise bolting the Thunder for nothing at the end of next season. OKC will be looking for a trading partner with the following combo of: 1. Young PG with star/leadership potential to replace Westbrook 2. Young utility players with upside on fair contracts with years remaining, ideally at SF/PF to fill the holes left by Durant & Ibaka 3. Future picks and cash Both teams would need confirmation that the players involved would sign extensions for their new teams, but otherwise the Blazers can satisfy the above requirements better than almost any other trading partner: 1. CJ McCollum - He immediately slots into the starting PG role next to Oladipo. He's a leader in his own right and will continue to grow with increased usage and responsibility. High integrity guy that can be trusted to take the reigns of the franchise for many years moving forward. He's not Westbrook, but nobody is and he's better than any other PG the Thunder could realistically trade for this year. 2. "Chief" Aminu & Ed Davis - these guys signed bargain deals LAST summer at $7.5M and $6.5M, respectively. Following THIS summer's activity and considering their improvements last year, these two contracts should be extremely appealing to a team like OKC that could have trouble keeping players the next few years. Davis has 2 more years and Aminu has 3. Plus, both fill a need. Aminu slots in as the starting SF (the only SFs they have now are Kyle Singler and Josh Huestis...) and Davis is a versatile big that can start or come off the bench behind Adams and Kanter (assuming he destroys Nick Collison, Mitch McGary, and Ersan Ilyasova in practice). 3. We don't have much to offer by way of picks but certainly Paul Allen's money could be a cherry on top. I also have them giving us Young Sabas because, well duh. He wouldn't have a great shot with their lineup anyways beating out Adams, Davis, and Kanter (and the other 3 dudes). Would you make this offer to OKC if you're Neil Olshey? Assuming Westbrook agrees to an extension in Portland, are Russ/Dame significantly better than Dame/CJ? If we bring back our RFAs (Leonard, Crabbe, Harkless), would you be okay trading Aminu and Davis in order to upgrade the backcourt? I would. The goal is no longer to simply improve the team. The goal is to beat, or at least compete with, the new Golden State Warriors. What better way than to fire up Rip City than to hire his former comrade? PG: Dame/Napier SG: Westbrook/Crabbe SF: Turner/Harkless PF: Vonleh/Alexander C: Plumlee/Leonard

Gasol great addition - Even defensively

1

Check out this link that shows the league leaders in different statistics .. Pay close attention to the defensive statistics in the bottom half : 1.Block % (Rank# 7) 2. Defensive Rating (19 - very impressive since the Bulls were not considered a good defensive team overall) 3. Defensive Win Shares (14 - majoritt of the players on that list are considered good defenders) 4. Box Plus Minus (17) 5. Value Over Replacement Player (18) When taken into proper context these stats are rather impressive .. Especially the defensive rating statistic you will find a lot of San Antonio Spurs and Atlanta Hawks players because their starting lineups are so good defensively but there is Pau Gasol in the middle of the statistics when he was playing with a below average defensive team (Mirotic was his front court sidekick:)) Overall if we have the opportunity to add Gasol it would mean a very skilled and unselfish offensive player (without mentioning the added spacing he gives Lillard / CJ / Turner to drive to the rim due to his ability to consistently hit a jumper) as well as being an improvement defensively at the starting center position .. Pretty much you can talk yourself into Gasol being an ideal get for the Blazers in free agency
